On November 26, the research group of Professor Li Menghong from the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University published an article in Cell Research. The study found that the serine synthesis pathway can be over-activated by ILF3 to provide cells with energy supply and nucleotide synthesis raw materials As well as reducing power, inhibit oxidative stress and promote the malignant growth of tumor cells.
ILF3 gene is a key gene in the process of tumor carcinogenesis. This study revealed for the first time the key role and regulatory mechanism of the mRNA binding protein ILF3 in maintaining the metabolism of serine in colorectal cancer cells and promoting the malignant progression of colorectal cancer. At the same time, in vivo and in vitro experiments have shown that ILF3 can be used as a new colorectal cancer. The prognostic prediction markers and potential therapeutic targets, its inhibitors have potential drug development value, and have applied for Chinese patents. Through upstream analysis, Li Menghong’s research team suggested that this gene may be a factor leading to resistance to cetuximab, the first-line drug for colorectal cancer. Targeting this gene and downstream metabolic pathways may provide new ideas for solving cetuximab resistance in the future.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignant tumor in the world. In recent years, the incidence of colorectal cancer has increased year by year in my country. The key gene, ILF3, can “add bricks and tiles” to tumor cells and promote the malignant proliferation of tumor cells by promoting more greedy intake of surrounding nutrients by tumor cells, especially glucose and serine.
Excessive intake of nutrients, especially foods rich in serine and methionine, has been reported to promote the occurrence and development of cancer. Nowadays, people’s diet is becoming more and more high-fat and high-protein, and it is more likely to induce cancer.
